Software Engineering, Simulation

Everything you see on screen is driven by a combination of both artistic input and physical simulation: the Motion & Simulation team builds the tools to make that happen.

Meet Noel

What does your department do?

The Motion & Simulation Team is responsible for writing software that moves things. The elegant gait of a princess might be driven by the deft hand of a skilled artist. The realistic motion of a snowball rolling down a hill might result from a simulation modeling the complex physics of materials.

What do you do in your role?

I've been lucky enough to work on a variety of projects spanning a number of areas. One animation tool I worked on lets artists use every CPU on their machine to draw characters in motion with much increased complexity and speed. Another tool helps layout artists convey realism and a sense of urgency to their shots by adding camera shake. Recently, I've started digging into our simulations, to help our artists play with snow.
